Discover Ash Cave in
Hocking Hills State Park
Located in the southernmost part of the region, Ash Cave in Hocking Hills State Park, Ohio is the most impressive recess cave in the area. When exploring Ash Cave, discover magnificent hemlocks, verdant forests, colorful wildflowers, a narrow gorge, and a small runoff waterfall that drops 90 feet into a pool. Enjoy wildflowers in the spring and summer along the valley floor or visit in the winter and see the waterfall transformed into a soaring ice sculpture that often stretches from top to bottom.
You can get to Ash Cave by hiking the narrow gorge for approximately one-fourth of a mile, which leads to the massive overhanging ledge and cave shelter. There are manmade steps provided to guide you into the cave.
